Add a new eSIM or top up your plan
Change the Settings
Settings>Connections>Sim manager
confirm that your eSim in turned on (in my case I have called it Airalo US)
Set your Primary SIM to Airalo US
Settings>Connections>Mobile networks
turn Data roaming on
Data roaming needs to be turned on so that Airalo can switch between local carriers. That is why the next setting is very important.
Settings>Connections>Sim manager
turn Data switching off
This will ensure that your home carrier will not be used for data.
With these setting you will have access to your:
travel data plan
cell phone number ( at a cost based on your home carrier plan)
text messaging ( at a cost based on your home carrier plan)
Advise the people you normally communicate with to use email, whatsapp, facebook messenger or any other data based messaging service.
My service allows me to receive the text free of charge, but I am charged when a text is sent. So when I receive a text, my reply is sent via a data based app.
While I am traveling I often turn my home SIM off during the day while I am out.
Remember to turn your home SIM on, if you sign into a app or site that requires your phone for 2 factor authentication.
From the people that brought you NordVPN, Saily is a realativly new (2024) international cellular provider that can be used for international travel. I have not used this service, but I would seriously consider this service as I am a NordVPN subscriber. I currently have a earned some Airalo Money but will continue to check back to Saily for continued value.
